How to sew pattern weights

A very simple, yet quite helpful and important sewing project. Pattern weights are essential for sewers and are such a fun project. You can make them as colourful or as plain as you want!

Have fun sewing! And remember, unless otherwise stated, or if it’s a different type of stitch or seam, sew right sides together.

What you need:

  • Cotton fabric
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Rice or other filling
  • Rotary cutter and cutting mat (or scissors)
  • Sewing machine
  • Sewing machine thread and needle

The steps:

  1. Iron and cut 6 squares of 2.5”.

  2. Sew 4 of the squares together in a line, and iron.

  3. Sew one square on top of and one square below the second square in the line. Iron.
  4. Sew the left side of the square on top with the top side of the first square in the line.

  5. Sew the right side of the square on top with the top side of the third square in the line.

  6. Sew the left side of the square below with the bottom side of the first square in the line.

  7. Sew the right side of the square below with the bottom side of the third square in the line.

  8. Sew up the three sides left with the top piece, but leave an opening in the middle of one of the sides.

  9. Flip right side out, fill with rice or a type of bean and hand sew the gap closed!

Now your done! These are also fun to use as fidgets or juggle with!!

I hope this tutorial helped and that you don’t have to pin your paper patterns to your fabric anymore!

After you have purchased an embroidery design, you will most likely get a zip file. First, you want to unzip the file. On a Chromebook you will double-tap the file On windows, you will want to right-click the file and select the option unzip  And on a Mac, you will right-click on the file and click into services, from there you will want to click unzip Yay! Now you have successfully unzipped the file! After that, you will want to drag the format that your machine uses (for example Brother is PES) to where the USB is in files.  Or you can click the format, click CTRL+C and click into the USB in files, and click CTRL+V. If you’re not sure which file format you need, no worries! You
